Where did my marketing career start?

I’ve always had an interest in creative services – branding, design, graphics, photography etc. To see an initial thought or idea come to life really is the biggest highlight and has been my passion from day dot!

After completing a Bachelor of Communication at the University of Canberra (back in 2006!) I launched myself into a loyalty marketing company. It’s here that I learned about loyalty programs, incentives and marketing initiatives. Although I enjoyed my time in this field, I felt that I really wanted to take the next step and move into a creative industry – and that was the beginning of my advertising days!

From the first day I started working at an advertising agency, I knew that I was fulfilling my passion. As an account manager, my primary role was to service clients’ needs and wants. To ensure that their brief was turned into a creative concept, followed by execution and a finished result. Whether that was collateral, a TVC, digital marketing or a brand refresh, it was that initial discussion with the client and how we briefed the internal departments that was going to make or break the campaign.

Being able to liaise with clients and internal departments is a skill! Account managers are to wear many hats – and be able to speak to a variety of personalities. We also need to know the ins and outs of agency protocol so that we can explain to clients’ what stages are involved in their campaign and how we are going to meet their expectations.

After 9 years working in the advertising game, I decided that it was time for me to take the skills I have, and the contacts I have gained, and open my own agency. Something of a smaller scale, where I can really get to know my clients. Where I can meet them weekly and help them on a daily basis. And with the ever-growing demand of social media, it’s even more important that online strategies are tight and working in favour of clients’ businesses.

For my agency, I’ve decided to focus on key areas within marketing…

Social media training and management

Because business owners are so busy building their empire, it’s hard for them to find time to develop and implement social media. It’s not about throwing a random post on Instagram and Facebook – there needs to be thought put into whether it’s a brand, engagement or sales piece. You want to grow your online community and it takes time. We take the pressure off businesses and manage this for them!

Creative services such as branding, graphic design and photography

In my experience, a business creates an initial brand – something that defines who they are in the beginning, but it’s not till they dig deeper and look at their business strategy, that the brand really doesn’t reflect them. This is where we come in! We help businesses with their strategy and from that, define a brand that reflects their identity, manner and vision.

Strategy and planning

Not only is a business strategy important but social media and marketing activity planning is paramount! To be effective and consistent with your messaging, there needs to be time dedicated to the ‘what, why, where, who, when and how.’ We can help you plan this out and make sure that what you’re saying on one channel is reflected on another.

It truly is a passion of mine to work with businesses and watch them grow and prosper. To see a small idea come to fruition is why I am working in this industry.
